Has this happened to anyone else’s knit picks options cables? Or am I just special
I don’t think its supposed to do that! While I was knitting I felt something, I really don’t know how to describe it. It was like something let go, kinda like when you drop a stitch. Something feels off. Well…… the connector broke where the cable goes in. Frick.
Last Monday.. well, I think it was last Monday. I was lucky enough to be home and free during Hello Yarn’s Shop update. I was able to score this
Hand-dyed fat sock in the colorway soft serve. I’ve been drooling over Adrian’s yarn for a long while now. I’m so happy! She sent me the cute little sheep button which is now on one of my WIP bags.
Must.Resist.Casting.On.Now.Good thing the kids are home from school and its homework time, and my parents are on their way here and I should clean… maybe….
Its amazing how quickly a year goes past. We all say it, we all know it. But its still hard to believe how quickly time flies. A year ago at 3:55am today Kailey was born, and today she turns one.
Thank goodness she is over the stomach bug she had earlier this week, not what one wants for their 1st birthday!! Her older brother and sisters have been anticipating her birthday, Bryce wanted to give her one of his stuffed animals, Corra made her a picture. I came up with an idea of making one of those no sew fleece blankets for her, something that all of us could work on together.
I think that they enjoyed making the blanket almost as much as they enjoyed giving it to her!
Kailey loves her blanket, it was so cute watching her play with it.
It truly is amazing how quickly the first year goes by. All the milestones that are reached. Soon Kailey will be walking, she has been pulling herself up on almost anything she can hold on to. Her legs can hold her weight for a few seconds before melting down. She’s already eating real solids, and drinking (mostly) from a cup. The next years are going to be a blast. I love you Kailey, we all love you, Happy 1st Birthday baby.
Thursday’s aren’t that bad either… because I finished my traveling mini van socks! I started these socks back in September after I finished the last pair of mini-van socks.
I used knitpicks 6″ nickel plated US1 (2.25mm) dpns, my weapons of choice. Casted on 64sts, knit 15 rows of K2, P2. Then I knit for 5ish inches before knitting a slip stitch heel. I looove this heel, it has to be of my favorite. Ok, I’ve tried what 4 heels? Slip stitch, garter, garter with a purl stitch in it and 2 different short row heels (1 short row heel pattern that I also looove!) So I guess I have 2 favorites, the slip stitch and a certain short row heel. The heels on these socks make me ridiculously happy
I just love how they striped out! Don’t they make you happy too? Maybe the yarn has something to do with it. Its Susie’s perchance to knit merino sock yarn in the white rainbow colorway. I saw this on her blog one day for sale and jumped all over it.
I would have finished these on Wednesday but I had premature toe formulation. I started the toe like 2-4 rows too soon on the first sock and had to rip it out. I’m very happy that I did. I love these socks! They are incredible comfy, after I had worn them all day… and slept in them… the yarn fuzzed a bit, but nothing more than normal.
*sigh* so happy!
My Apres sock pal received her socks, also on Thursday. I knit these socks for Tiff of pink knitting adventures. Click on the pick for more info
I’m sorry, I’m just ready for bed! I’ve been super tired lately, and not really sure why. Night all! I’m going to go catch up on my zzz
there is a fantastic fiber portion of this post near the end
Yesterday turned out to be a pretty good day. Started off like any other Monday that I run errands, I dropped A, B & C off at their schools, K at the sitters (She only goes 6 times a month. When B has boy scouts, C has girl scouts and when A has head start) I ran half my errands and went to pick up Allysa, while picking up A got a phone call from the school that B was sick and wanted to come home (yeah, he was soooo sick. *voice dripping with sarcasm*) . Picked him up, got the call back from my GS neighborhood leader, had to call the girl that had the cookie stuff for my troop. Who wasn’t able to hand out the cookie materials to the girls in time, was able to pick up all the cookie stuff and ended the great cookie debacle of 2008. (Fund-raising isn’t fun unless there is drama.) Harassed the mail-man cause I knew he had packages for me, who in turned picked on me because my van looked like I had been out mud bogging (would had been more fun then tracking down the cookie stuff.) Lucky me! He had already delivered them while I was out! I received my Apres sock pal socks (I don’t think I blogged about this at all)
Thank you so much Katy! Katy used her own hand-dyed sock yarn for my socks, and I’m loven the colors. These socks have to be the softest pair I own. Once I opened up the package I had to put these on,
I didn’t take them off till this morning. So comfy! The caramel chocolate didn’t last for very long… and the milk chocolate… um… well I’m eating it now! And mmm, the tea is yummy too. Thanks again Katy! I’m still waiting to hear if my pal received her socks, I’m dying with anticipation! It was a good thing my pal’s feet are bigger than mine. I wanted to keep her socks for myself.
There was another package for me too! This had to be one of the best Mondays ever. I won one of Kelly contest’s and she asked me if I wanted sock yarn (I can’t quite remember, I just knew I wanted…) or handspun. I jumped all over the handspun. I want the handspun. And ohmyGAWD!
I want to use this as a pillow, I want to sleep with this yarn. (Why does that sound so very wrong?)I love this handspun, the colors are amazing. I thought the yarn looked perfect with the apples I bought today. Kelly also sent me some yummy chocolates (how did you know I polished off a bag of those last week and wished I had bought another?). Kelly sent me 516 yards, and I’m completely unsure what to do with it! A shawl, a short scarf and hat? Any ideas?
That is why yesterday, Monday, had to be the best Monday ever.
hmmmm.. its been a while since I’ve had a contest… I’m going to have to think up a good one….
yeah I’m way behind the ball on this one, I’m so behind because the ball bounced off my head after I fell off. Lets start way back at the week before Christmas. The kids and I made a whole slew of cookies
then for Christmas eve’s we went over to Mike’s mom’s house, and once we got home the kids left out the reindeer food
and putting Santa’s special key in the door (we don’t have a chimney)
We hung up our stockings by the china cabinet,
We had a lovely Christmas over here
The kids love to tear into the gifts, it took Kailey awhile to understand what we wanted her to do with the boxes with paper we kept handing her. But once she got the jest of it she was on her way to ripping all the paper off of all the presents!
Diane gifted me with this lovely green sock yarn from the Natural Dye studio, girl how do you know exactly what I want?! I’ve been coveting some green sock yarn and have been drooling over their yarns! And many thanks for the chocolate too, yumm! I did share this time! Many thanks! Santa gave me Cat Bordhi’s new book and 2 hanks of mirasol hacho yarn, I must have been a very good girl this year! Mike gave me the beautiful red reindeer mug, the little tea pot, and 2 Republic of tea’s. Got a new coffee maker this year and 2 yummy coffees.
My favorite part was surprising Mike with one of his gifts, this man has the ability to guess what the present is. And I had to level the playing field. (I don’t like to guess, ruins the fun for me)
You might have to embiggen that one too see his facial expressions! I bought a $1 book from the thrift shop and cut out a square big enough for a DVD to fit into in chapters 1-6. I was lucky enough to find an old textbook titled: The Essentials of Consumerism hehehe. I wrote on the first page:”Merry Christmas Hunny! Turn to chaper 1.” I wrote on the title page for Chapter 1: “I bet you thought all you got for Christmas was this stupid book, huh? Love you!” The look on his face was worth the 2 hours it took me to cut all those pages! I’m still giggling about it. New Years was fun, we stayed at home and watched some movies and Dick Clark’s rocking New Years eve. I had the kids make noise makers out of the left over pringles cans from a GS craft. We used paper to cover the can, about 1/4C rice, plastic wrap and 2 rubber bands. We also made some noise makers out of foam plates, leftover birthday streamers, some pony beads and a crap load of staples. After we finished that project Bryce asked me “Mommy do you have another project for us to do?” So I googled paper hats and we made a few of them.
Bryce didn’t make it to see the ball drop, he laid down on the couch at 11:50 and was out like a light. After the ball dropped Allysa came over to me and said “Mommy why are your eyes all wet?” I don’t know what it is about watching the ball drop on tv, watching certain Christmas movies but they turn me into this big mush ball. Maybe its all the wonderful memories from when I was little…. anyway I’m almost caught up to that elusive ball I keep falling off of, Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! And Have a wonderful, happy healthy New year!
