The Rock

This is another FO that I promised finished pictures of, this one was finished back in *cough*July*cough* anyway, *ahem*

Diamonds are a girls best friend,
Diamond Fantasy shawl

This shawl was in my queue for a little over a year before it had its transformation on the needles.

pattern: Diamond Fantasy Shawl by Silvia Harding
yarn: Brooklyn Handspun signature sock in Chocolate Covered Cherries
needles: US 5 (3.75mm) and US 8 (5mm) Knitpicks options (used the 8 for the i-cord edging)
time: June 27-July 20 2007

This was a very enjoyable lace project, even with a little baby in the house! I did end up with a pattern with a miss print (one of the rows was printed twice), Silvia was very quick to answer my question about it! I see a few mistakes in the shawl now that I look at the close up picture, but they are livable. (I think they have to be, its blocked and has been worn. I’m not rippin’ that sucker out!) Now diamonds aren’t this girls only best friend. There is another rock that holds a place in my heart,
Bullhead Rock

My parents live on a lake, and this large sandstone rock is part of the property. When I was little I would love to climb up to the top and look around the lake, see what the otters had left up there, and to trace my finger on the names that people had carved into it. Once in a crevice a found a birds nest. My Dad has a beautiful photograph of him and his brothers and sisters by the rock when they where children. I miss being able to climb up there and watch the lake.

special kinda special

So, Monday I finished my Monkey socks right? Right after I grafted the toe shut, weaved in all my ends I slip on my new comfy socks and marvel in their sweet glory.

Monkey sock close up

I started winding up the finished yarn into little balls (because I’m anal like that. I hate my yarn to be messy) to save for possible darning.

Finished Monkeys

Well… (remember how sentences that start with well… go?) I noticed how one ball was a bit bigger than the other… so I looked at the socks, and then suddenly realized what I did wrong. Well. Nuts.

Finished Monkeys, one a little short

Sock 1 (left leg) has 6 pattern repeats on the leg, Sock 2 (right leg) has 5 repeats. Urgh! Why didn’t I check sock 1 before turning the heel on sock 2?! I even wrote it down, twice even, that I knit the 1st sock as stated in the pattern. urgh!

Stats:

Pattern: Monkey socks by Cookie A. Knitty Winter ’06

Yarn: sweet georgia superwash sock in Spark colorway. (swapped with the wonderful Suzanne)

needles: Inox US 2 (2.25mm)

notes: I’m a special kinda special. Sock 1 has 6 repeats on the leg and Sock 2 has 5. Will I frog the socks? Probably not, I’ll keep them as a reminder to check my damned notes!

Diamond Fantasy shawl blocking

I’m taking the kids up to my parents this week (now that the van has been released from the shop. The ABS light was on, it needed an oil change, and there was a recall. I had L4 the larger clown car for 2 days.) and I want to take FO pictures at the lake. So, you’ll see it then. The suspense!

Ketchup

Let’s play ketchup! Because there really is no other way I’m going to catch up this blog.

Diamond Fantasy Shawl

I started Diamond Fantasy Shawl. I’m using Brooklyn Handspun signature in chocolate covered cherries I’ve had stashed for a while. I think I’ve knit about 3 repeats. See the cute little markers I’m using? Mom gave them to me.

Wee One's sheep

they are just so stinking cute! And just like (almost) every other knitter on the planet I’ve started a pair of Monkey socks

Finished Monkey 1

This picture just makes me laugh, my foot looks so wonky! Second sock is on the needles, and will hopefully be done soon. I’m using Sweet Georgia superwash sock in Spark that I trade with Suzanne. I’m dying to cast on for my waving lace socks. Last week I got my yarn for Mystery Lace shawl 3 from Mom. I still have to cast on…

Jaggerspun Zephyr Pewter

isn’t it pretty? Its the pewter color. So.pretty.must.cast.on.soon! Mike and I took Kailey and Allysa to Brockway for their 4th of July celebration. Mike’s sister rode over with us. We watched the 2freakinghour parade. And later met up with the rest of the family to watch the fireworks. I have to say, I really enjoy meeting up with Mike’s family to watch the fireworks there, its become sort of a tradition for us.

Kailey and Allysa had a blast watching the parade! Kailey didn’t mind all the noise, but the shriners in their little cars really freaked her out! Allysa got a whole shabang of candy. I don’t know what it is about parades. But I cry. Yep, cry. Just a little teary not full out crying. Anyway, there was a bagpiping band (?) click here to see the video.  The music was beautiful.

Ok, I think I’m all caught up!
